Batch Grading with QR Codes
What Is Batch Grading?
Batch grading lets you upload multiple homework photos at once instead of processing them one by one. When your printed worksheets include QR codes (which are generated automatically in the PDF version), the system can scan each photo and automatically match it to the correct student and worksheet — saving you significant time when grading a stack of papers.
Starting a Batch Scan
Navigate to the Grade Homework page and select a class from the left sidebar. Then click the Batch Scan (QR) button to enter batch grading mode. Note that you must select a class first before the batch scan option becomes available.
Uploading Multiple Photos
In batch mode, you can upload several homework photos at the same time. Either drag and drop a group of image files onto the upload area, or click Browse to select multiple files from your device. The system accepts the same formats as single uploads: JPEG, PNG, WebP, and HEIC.
Automatic QR Code Identification
As photos are uploaded, the system scans for QR codes in the background. Photos that are successfully identified display a QR badge along with the student name and worksheet title, highlighted in green. These photos are ready to be processed without any manual input from you.
Photos where the QR code could not be read (due to poor image quality, the code being cut off, or the worksheet not having a QR code) appear as unidentified. For these, you will see dropdown menus that let you manually select the student and worksheet that the photo corresponds to.
Processing the Batch
Once all photos have been identified — either automatically via QR code or manually through the dropdowns — click Upload & Process All. The system will run OCR on every photo in the batch. A batch review modal then opens, allowing you to grade each submission in sequence. You can review and correct extracted answers for each student one after another without leaving the modal.
Printing Worksheets with QR Codes
For batch scanning to work automatically, your printed worksheets need to include QR codes. When you download a worksheet as a PDF from LifeSchoolers, a QR code is automatically embedded in the document. This code encodes the student's identity and the worksheet information. Print these PDFs and distribute them to your students so that when you collect and photograph the completed work, the QR codes enable automatic identification.
Tip: Always print worksheets from the PDF export (which includes the QR code) rather than printing directly from the browser. The QR code is what makes batch grading seamless — without it, you will need to manually identify each photo.
