COPPA Compliance and Data Security

What Is COPPA?

The Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is a US federal law that protects the privacy of children under 13 years old online. LifeSchoolers is designed to be fully COPPA compliant so that parents, teachers, and school administrators can trust our platform for young learners.

How We Handle Accounts for Children Under 13

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 without parental or teacher consent. For students under 13:

  • A parent or teacher must create and manage the student account
  • Student accounts created through teacher class enrollment are managed under the teacher’s supervision, and the teacher acts as the consenting authority
  • Students cannot create accounts independently without adult oversight

No Advertising or Tracking on Student Pages

LifeSchoolers does not display advertising of any kind on student-facing pages. We also do not use third-party tracking scripts on pages where students interact with content. This means no ad networks, no retargeting pixels, and no data brokers have access to student activity.

How We Handle Homework Images (OCR Grading)

Teachers on the Teacher plan can upload photographs or scans of student worksheets for automatic OCR grading. These images are:

  • Processed securely on US-based servers
  • Stored with access restricted to the uploading teacher and the student whose work it is
  • Never shared with third parties, other students, or other teachers

Tip: When photographing student work for OCR grading, make sure the image only contains the worksheet itself. Avoid capturing other personal information in the background of the photo.

Analytics and Anonymous Usage Data

We use PostHog for anonymous usage analytics to understand how people use the platform and where we can make improvements. No personal data — such as names, emails, or scores — is shared with PostHog. The analytics data is fully anonymized and is used solely for product improvement.

Infrastructure Security

Our infrastructure runs on Cloudflare, which is a SOC 2 Type II certified provider. This means Cloudflare has been independently audited and verified to meet rigorous standards for security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality, and privacy. Your data benefits from enterprise-grade infrastructure protection.

For School Districts

If you are evaluating LifeSchoolers for use in a school or district, we are happy to discuss our data privacy practices in detail and work with you on any required data privacy agreements. Many districts require vendors to sign agreements such as Data Processing Agreements (DPAs) or Student Data Privacy Agreements, and we are prepared to accommodate these requirements.

Please email us at [email protected] to start the conversation. We can provide documentation of our security practices, COPPA compliance measures, and infrastructure details to support your review process.
