Moving Students Between Classes
When to Move a Student
There are times when a student needs to be in a different class. Maybe they have advanced beyond their current level, need to switch to an easier group, or you are reorganizing your classes for a new term. Instead of removing the student and having them re-enroll, you can use the Move Student feature to transfer them directly, preserving their data in the process.
How to Move a Student
From the Teacher Dashboard, locate the student you want to move in your class roster. Hover over the student's row to reveal the move icon (it looks like a small arrow or transfer symbol). Click the move icon to open the Move Student modal.
Selecting a Destination
The Move Student modal presents a dropdown menu listing all of your other classes across all schools. Select the class you want to move the student into. If the destination class does not exist yet, you can create a new class on-the-fly directly from the modal — just enter a name and it will be created and selected as the destination automatically.
What Happens After the Move
Once you confirm the move, the student is transferred to the new class. Their data — including past assignment scores and submission history — transfers with them to the new class. The student will no longer appear in the original class roster and will instead show up in the destination class. Any future assignments you create in the new class will be sent to the transferred student along with the rest of the roster.
Common Use Cases
- Level advancement — A student has mastered the current material and is ready to move to a more advanced class.
- Difficulty adjustment — A student is struggling and would benefit from moving to a class with easier assignments.
- Term reorganization — You are restructuring your classes for a new semester or quarter.
- Correcting enrollment errors — A student joined the wrong class and needs to be placed in the correct one.
Tip: Before moving a student, let them know about the change so they are not confused when they see a different set of assignments on their Assignments page.
